Sidari

Back from holiday fully refreshed and raring to go. Corfu is a nice island and would go back again but probably not to Sidari. The peole are nice enough and the food, Greek, is superb. The main strip has plenty of bars and resturants, but the off putting thing is the beaches which are full of litter. There are plenty of coves and seculded beaches off the Canal D Amour area which are much better. Corfu town, five euros on the bus, is worth a visit and the guided tour of the north is good.

Short post but might play online tonight and may well play live tomorrow at the merrion.... we will see as i have volunteered to help with the washing and ironing :)

Always best to keep on the good side of the Mrs!!

Good luck all.

UPDATE

Played 6 MTT no cashes tonight just the usual outdraws.

Played three hours 0.5/1 got up $300. Moved onto a $1/$2 table up $86 then QQ bust to AJ and KK to AA = $400 down. Not a good night.

I am on the verge of dumping ipoker because of the shit in the MTT`s but whats the alternative? Stars 10 hour marathons with no rakeback or should i go over to Fulltilt? I rather like fact you can play several full handed cash tables at anytime of the day AND get 27% rakeback.

But ipoker is really pissing me off. I could say its the worst run five years but I am playing a lot less nowadays.

PISSED

Well it’s nearly holiday time and I can’t wait to get away for a couple of weeks rest and recuperation. Pissed off at work and pissed off at poker

Firstly work, the problem is I just can’t motivate myself to stretch and go that extra mile (Fuck me I’m speaking in company terminology) and I seem to just go through the motions, its not the job as such as this is fairly easy, I get paid a reasonable salary and shouldn’t moan on about it especially in the current climate but I just have a lack of motivation. After thirteen years with the same company I need a change not upwards as I don’t want a mobile stuck to my ear 24/7 maybe a sideward’s move or in company speak a “lateral move across positions”.

Secondly, poker. I fired up the laptop on Saturday night and played five tournaments including the 35K rebuy and 10K freezeout. I was going fairly well in the 35K but managed to bust out on KK v JJ on a KJ5 board, guy rivered a Jack – finished 508th. In the 10K out first hand!!! KK v AK. AK UTG raise I reraise, he goes all in I call, blank flop, turn A river, blank – finished last. At this point I was pissed off royally and was nearing on smashing the laptop up but I was still in another tournament. Three hours of playing and I make the final table in that one and chip leader as well (there is a poker god after all) anyway my stack dwindles away, six left, I am second to act with AK. UTG goes all in, he’s got slightly more chips than me, I call in an instant, everyone folds and he turns over K3 off suit FFS and he hits a 3 on the flop – out for $151 dollars but sick as a parrot and off to bed.

On Sunday I didn’t play but while watching top gear I reviewed my playing through Holdem manager, which has plenty of detail and is a must (or poker tracker) to anyone who wants to take this game seriously, I couldn’t believe that I was still in profit by $600 dollars in all MTT with the hourly rate equating to $3.20, lol. I don’t have detail to hand as I am writing this at work, with the biggest chunk of the winnings coming from the 50 man turbo events – sharkscope rating of 76 in these, is that good? Most of the players in these are serious losers and it’s not uncommon to see stats of minus 7 or 8K. It also shows that I have been on a three month cooler in these as well, no need to remind me on that one.

Cash stats show plus $786 after 6K of hands mainly at 0.5/1 level full handed. In the past I have never managed to sustain cash game play and have always taken a break from them and concentrate on tournies just dipping back into cash on occasions. I think the software will improve my cash game play but until recently I have always felt better in MTT but after being continually being double butt fucked in these I may well have to change, I will have a think about it on holiday. Perhaps going all in UTG with K3 off is the way forward? I don’t think so.

Gl on the tables back in three weeks. WOOHOO

Frustration

To say that the poker, on the tournament front, has been frustrating over the last couple of weeks would be an understatement. I haven’t cashed out for over three weeks in any of the tournaments that I have played in. The frustrating thing is that I am doing nothing wrong just getting outdrawn, with trips getting beat by straights (including gutshots) being the normal exit. This is of course happening after four hours of playing and managing to beat 90% of the field, the time spent wasted is really starting to piss me off. On the other hand the 50/1 cash games are fairly easy to beat but the £200 that I am winning there is going out the door through tournament buy ins.

Last night I wasn’t intending to play, just relaxing in the heat before work today but I did log on to check my emails. I had received an email from Paddy Power Poker, I have an account there but haven’t played on the site for months, who were telling me I had a $5 sit and go ticket and decided to use it. Anyway I managed to win that and decided to join a special MTT called Whacko Jacko with bounties on XXXBUBBLESXXX and whakojako $100 and a Michael Jackson CD respectively, thankfully I didn’t win the CD!!!.

But once again, I play for three hours and end up with nothing other than a lesson on why you should notetake or use software during games. I have used different calculators in the past and even up to the more complex poker tracker and holdem manager but at the moment I use holdem indicator which has enough detail to categorise your opponents and probably should have taken more note last night. The software had me down as slightly loose, aggressive, solid 30% V$IP AF 2.5. I am dealt JJ in mid position and are first to act, blinds 800/400 (stack 14K) I raised up to 2400 and I am reraised to 4800, the guy who reraised 24% 1.0 TAG, (stack 15K) and everyone folds, now I have a decision, flat call see a flop continuation bet and fold to a raise on J free board or push all in hope for a fold or a race? Anyway I pushed all in but all the time I am thinking this guy has AA, low and behold he insta calls and flips over AA no help from the board and I am out. His stats were telling me he had a monster, I was thinking he had a monster but I took the wrong option. Accurate notes and stats are a potential goldmine and will take note in the future.

Off to Greece in three weeks and cant wait as its one of the few places I have never been excluding Cyprus, the Greek side. Sidari in Corfu is the destination and I am looking forward to the break.

Good Luck on the tables.

HELLO

Not updated for a while basically there hasn’t been that much action over last month. Once again time on the tables is restricted due to the length of tournaments and the knock on effect of playing late into the night with work the next day. That aside I haven’t played live for ages as well so I’m on a bit of a poker downer. One thing that I have been doing since the transition from crypto to ipoker is play more cash games, when I have had the time, and with some success at the 0.50/1 and 1/2 levels which in the past has eluded me mainly due to tilting off my stack or chasing draws, so what I have done is apply the following rules.

When multitabling play no more than four tables at once – anymore and I rapidly lose concentration but aftertime I may well increase this when I get used to it.
Play no more than two hours without a break – I found this advice a few years ago on the 2+2 forum which came from a cash game pro who’s thinking behind this was to counteract variance and loss of concentration. How many times have you won a few pots and thought just a few more hands then I am going, but ending up with a lot less then chasing the loses? I know I have.
Set a SMART target per table(s) – This a bit of a stop loss strategy based on tilt prevention, greed and grind. An example would be achieve 10BB then leave the table i.e. four tables 40BB won between them and stop. If this can be achieved within the two hour playing rule then great. My target is 5BB per table per session, whatever happens I leave after two hours.
Think log term rather than quick hit – If you hit between 40, which is very low in my opinion, and 200BB per week multi tabling that’s 2080 or 10400BB per year. Based on current results I would expect to hit at least 6500BB for this year which along with rakeback bonus is a tidy little sum.
Lastly think ABC, ABC, ABC, ABC and more ABC. The players at this level will invariably play any two cards and chase every flush and straight draw so there’s no point trying any flash moves with shit starting hands because if you don’t hit with these and you try to bluff after a caller you become the callers ATM!! Solid and aggressive ABC poker.

The rules are purely based on my own experiences over the years and may well seem a little conservative but I am not trying to reinvent the wheel and if it isn’t broke why try to fix it?

Outside poker wasn’t it great to see Millwall lose the playoff final, Celtic getting pipped at the post by Rangers and lastly Manure getting outclassed by Barcelona – didn’t Fergie watch the Chelsea game??? HO HO HO.

I must mention Newcastle, what a cunt that Mike Ashley is trying to bail out with such feeble excuses and as for Shearer I have said all along that he would be the only one coming out of this smelling of roses, stay up and he’s the messiah go down and it’s the previous mangers fault and just to reinforce my thinking that’s it all about him self promoting his ego I bet any amount of money that he’s not manager come August. The fans are fantastic at Newcastle and deserve much more but I’m afraid the club may well do a “Leeds”.

Good Luck on the tables.
